Housing Development and Property Management

Homeward Trust funds and coordinates the development of new housing for homeless, at-risk, and in-need populations. A Request for Proposals (RFP) is issued once or twice per year for capital projects, depending on available resources. Once the applications are reviewed internally by Homeward Trust staff, the Project Review Committee and the Indigenous Advisory Council offer feedback on each submission. Feedback from each committee is taken into consideration by the Board of Directors of Homeward Trust Edmonton when approving all capital funding Homeward Trust has supported the completion of nearly 91 developments spanning over 1,900 units.

As part of Homeward Trust’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that projects stay true to their intended purpose, monitors are conducted on an ongoing basis (every one to two years for housing developments). Homeward Trust now has nearly 91  completed developments, all of which are monitored.

Monitoring ensures that the original purpose of allocated funds are adhered to by the proponent. It also makes certain that the use of the building, the target population for the building, and the services and supports for the target group identified in the funding agreement are appropriate and meet the intended purpose and the needs.

Homeward Trust manages more than 90 units, providing housing for people in need. The largest section of its portfolio provides affordable housing for Indigenous families and individuals.

Homeward Trust has created a new company to hold and manage land acquired for future development.
